Nokia announced Nokia C2-05 & Nokia X2-05

Nokia announced two new affordable phones, the Nokia C2-05 and Nokia X2-05. Both aim to offer maximum functionality for the lowest price possible, but with a different emphasis to each to provide a fit for the needs of as many people as possible.

Both the Nokia C2-05 and Nokia X2-05 come with the new Nokia Browser, which uses Nokia’s own compression technology to deliver real mobile web pages quickly and at a fraction of the bandwidth, and cost, of other mobile phones. Both runs on Series 40 OS. They also come with the Nokia Store for access to thousands of apps. These are actually the most affordable phones in the world to offer a built-in Store for apps and other content downloads. Both have dedicated social networking apps preinstalled.

Nokia C2-05

The Nokia C2-05 has a slider form-factor, and it can slip easily into pockets and handbags the world over: this is a phone that’s geared towards style-conscious social networkers.

On the hardware front, the Nokia C2-05 offers a VGA camera with digital zoom and a full-screen viewfinder. There’s also a media player for MP3 and MP4 files, as well as an FM radio with a recorder built in, so users can save songs to play later. The phone allows for up to 32GB of external memory on a MicroSD card, and features both Bluetooth and MicroUSB for easy sharing and transfer of media. There’s a stereo headset included in the box.

The Nokia C2-05 measures 99.43 x 47.77 x 16.28mm and weighs 98.5g. The display is a 2-inch QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) LCD, offering up to 65K colors. The reception is GSM Dual Band 900/1800 and 850/1900. Battery life is up to 20 days in standby or four hours talktime.

It comes in a range of colours including pink, peacock blue and dynamic grey.

The Nokia C2-05 will become available in Q4 and will cost around 50 Euros (around 3300 INR) before any local taxes or operator subsidies.

Nokia X2-05

The Nokia X2-05 is a candy-bar form factor phone that offers an emphasis on music and media. Like the Nokia C2-05, it comes with the new Nokia Browser and Nokia Store on-board. There are also preloaded Facebook and Twitter clients.

As with other phones in the Xseries, the media player is a central focus. Music is a big priority for the people these phones are aimed at – sometimes it will be the only music player they’ve got access to, and everyone wants music on the move, anyway.

It can play MP3 and MP4 files, either through the stereo headset provided or through the loud loudspeaker. The speaker operates at 106phons – you’ll recall that phons are a measure of perceived loudness and that 106 of them are enough to entertain the whole room. There’s also an FM radio with a recording facility. On the back there’s a VGA camera so users can snap the world around them while they’re on the go – quite possibly for the first time.

This one measures 113 x 50 x 15 mm, but is a little lighter overall at just 87.8g. The screen is slightly larger, too, with a 2.2-inch QVGA display offering 65K colors at a 320 x 240 resolution. Storage is once again through an optional MicroSD card – cards with up to 32GB capacity can be fitted. The reception is GSM Dual Band 900/1800, while battery life is rated up to 25 days on standby or four hours talktime. Sharing and media transfer is once again offered through Bluetooth and the included MicroUSB cable.

Available in Black, Silver, White and Bright Red, the Nokia X2-05 will also ship in Q4 and is expected to cost around 46 (around 3000 INR) Euros before any local taxes or operator subsidies.

New Nokia Music Phone – Nokia X1-00

Today Nokia has announce a new music phone – Nokia X1-00.

This is a music lovers’ phone. You probably guessed that anyway from the massive speaker on the back, rated at 106phon (a phon is a measure of perceived loudness – 106 of them is enough to rattle your window frames, apparently). The frequency response has been tweaked somewhat, though, so that the sound remains undistorted at higher volumes, unlike most mobile phones.

Why is this important in the markets the Nokia X1-00 is designed for? Two reasons in particular: first, because ambient noise levels can high in many places in the world, so you might need everything to be a bit louder to cut through. Second, because mobile music is much more likely to be a shared experience – you might be using this device as your main music player at home, for example.

Its Specification :

  • Dimensions: 112.2 x 47.3 x 16mm
  • Weight: 91g
  • Series 30 operating system
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • Dedicated Music Keys
  • microSD Card slot, up to 16GB
  • Stand-by battery life is 61 days
  • Torch
  • 5 Phone Books

The Nokia X1-00 is scheduled to be available in selected markets beginning in April. Before taxes and operator subsidies, it should cost around €34.

Nokia X6 Firmware Updated to Version 30.0.003 (With Changelog)

The Nokia X6 got a new firmware version. The new firmware v30.0.3 can be downloaded via NSU (included with PC Suite). Note that it may take some time before the v30.0.3 firmware is available in your country. Changelog after the break.

Nokia X6 Official Chnagelog:
Here and Now
New version of Ovi Maps and Ovi Store
Improved Browser
Improved chat in Ovi Contacts

The X6 does have UDP (User Data Preservation), so while its always a good idea to backup all your data before the firmware update, none of your programs or data should be affected with the update.

Nokia X7-00 leaks: S^3, Quad-Speakers & 8MP Camera

Video and images seemingly showing Nokia’s unannounced X7-00 smartphone has emerged, with the touchscreen Symbian^3 handset playing Need For Speed Shift as well as navigating though the usual Nokia menus. The leak, from the Czech Modryzub forums [registration required], tips the Nokia X7 as having a polished metal body, 360 x 640 display and an 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash.

The display size is unspecified, but it looks to match the Nokia E7 at 4-inches. Onboard memory is 450MB with 245MB of RAM, and there’s a microUSB port and fixed battery. The X7-00 has four speakers, one at each corner, and is reportedly “very loud”

There’s also a 3.5mm headphone socket on the top edge, and a new, angular casing design. No word on release date or pricing at this stage.

Two New Affordable Phones (X2-01 & C2-01) from Nokia

Today sees the launch of two new mobile devices, the Nokia C2-01 and Nokia X2-01. Both aim to offer maximum functionality for the lowest price possible, but with a different emphasis to each to provide a fit for the needs of as many people as possible.

While the new devices have some features in common, it’ll make things easier if we describe them separately. Join us after the break for all the details.

Nokia X2-01

The Nokia X2-01 is a device for social networking and fast communications. It comes with a full QWERTY keypad and is aimed at those who can’t get enough of text messaging and status updates. This is bolstered by the new Communities app which integrates Facebook into the device. You can see friends’ updates directly from the homescreen and easily post your own updates and photos. With one click, you can dive into the application for a deeper view.

As befits an Xseries device, there’s also a healthy emphasis on music. There’s one click access to music, the media player, FM radio and the Ovi Music service, for unlimited access to a vast library of tunes, will be available in selected markets. There’s also Ovi Store, of course, for fresh apps. Ovi Life Tools will also be available in some territories.

It comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen and a VGA camera on the back. The Nokia X2-01 measures 119.4 x 59.8 x 14.3mm and weighs 107.5g. It supports memory cards up to 8GB. There’s no WiFi and only GPRS/EDGE data, but that’s compensated for by the low price.

The Nokia X2-01 is going to be available from this Quarter and the price – which will again vary according to local taxes and operator subsidies – will be around €80.

Nokia C2-01

There’s also a music player, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity and it can handle memory cards up to 16GB. Note that, unlike the original Nokia C2-00, this is a single SIM device.

The device comes with Nokia Messaging for email and instant messaging. SMS and chat messages are now displayed in a conversational (threaded) view. You get the Ovi Store for new apps and Ovi Music for tunes. In selected markets, the Nokia C2-01 will come with the Ovi Life Tools service.
